Music Magic: The Making of a Hit

Every hit song requires a killer hook, a great vocal performance and a memorable lyric. But there’s also a dash of magic that turns a good song into a smash. The respected urban writer/producers on this panel know what it takes to craft a chart-topping hit from scratch. They’ll share the stories and secrets behind their best-loved songs, and inspire you to create your own hits.

Ernest "Tuo" Clark (Da Internz)

 Chicago’s production duo Da Internz (Ernest \'Tuo\' Clark and Marcos \'Kosine\' Palacios) have produced for many of hip-hop/R&B\'s heavy hitters such as John Legend, Mims, Greyson Chance, Rihanna and Big Sean. Their songs include Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake,” Sean Kingston & Justin Bieber’s \'Eenie Meenie,\' Big Sean “Dance (A$$),” Greyson Chance \'Waiting Outside The Lines,\' and Mims’ \'Move (If You Wanna),\' among others.

S1 (Symbolyc One)

 S1, aka Symbolyc One, (born Larry D. Griffin Jr.), grew up in Waco, TX, infatuated with old tunes that played on his parents’ turntable. Shea Taylor

 Known for injecting energy into records, Robert “Shea” Taylor has engineered some of the nation’s greatest hits. Hailing from the Garden State, he began planting the seeds for his career at an early age. Malik Yusef

 Spoken word artist Malik Yusef was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began performing spoken word in open mic venues in the late 1980s, and had his first big break in 1997 when Ted Witcher, director of the film, Love Jones, recognized his poetry and hired him to coach the film\'s lead actor, Larenz Tate.
